22/5/12

This blog is all about deconstruction drive in and around Mandi City, looking at the daily incidents which are happening all around the Mandi city. I have decided to write down this post.  As per the Honorable High court judgment there is strict order to overcome illegal construction on government land. Due to which municipality Council of Mandi District is taking action against such people which have either construct their houses on the government property or are occupying the government land in illegal manner. Many people are liable to suffer from this judgment; most of these are poor people which can't even bear the expanse of basic legal activities.

These people may have made their houses a long time ago. The questions arise why the local administration was sleeping at the time when there was construction on government land.
My heart goes out to those people which have suffered the heat of this judgment. Men spend his entire livelihood to build a home for his family.  And breaking his home like a piece of brick is really heartening to see. I am not saying that this all wrong. It should be in such a manner that no one suffers more than his/her heart can bear. Instead finding a solution, we have made the situation only worse.  And some people are playing cheap politics on this issue which is quite sad. People should come up together and ask for a solution from local administration or even from the Government of Himachal Pradesh. I am sure there will be a solution without so much drama and anticipation if we try to find a sustainable & viable solution. Being a part of community I can see the anger, anguish of a common man over these deconstruction movements. But it does not implies that if no one is above the law. Law have to be implemented to maintain peace and order.

Even Government departments issued them Electricity meters and water meters without proper documents verification of land.  Who is the main culprit in this menace, I don't know. But one thing is for sure that this system has to be change.  There should be accountability at each and every step in governmental departments to avoid such disasters where we are just mere spectators.
I came to know from a very good friend of mine Sandeep Sharma that 90% of construction in Mandi town is illegal. Either people have built something over government land or have occupied it for years. It was bound to happen that someday sooner or later higher authorities would have grant such orders. This destruction drive will be continued for few days and we have to see the face of those people who will lose their homes to this order. It is a direct message from the government that no such illegal possession will be tolerated on government property.

Government is formed by people to serve them, to make their lives better by providing them facilities like proper education, food, sanitation and livelihood. Even though they were wrong on account of building their houses on the government land. There should be some relief on humanitarian ground to all those people which have lost the roof from their heads.
